不要讓自己成為欲望的奴隸

 

Do Not Let Yourself Be a Slave to Desires

 

 

 

世間上的任何妙欲，從中可以享受的快樂十分微薄，但隨之而來的痛苦卻無窮無盡。

 

The happiness that can be obtained from any worldly enjoyment is very meager, yet the suffering that ensues knows no bounds.

 

 

 

可遺憾的是，許多人好像並不清楚妙欲的眾多過患，

 

Regrettably, however, many people do not seem to realize desire’s multitude of faults.

 

 

 

對此毫不在意，日日夜夜沉溺其中不能自拔。

 

They remain indifferent to the flaws and helplessly wallow in desire day and night.

 

 

 

許多人在年輕時代，花費大量精力追求一些不必要的妙欲，自以為人生還特別漫長。

 

During their youth, many people expend enormous energy to pursue unnecessary worldly enjoyments, believing they have a long life ahead of them.

 

 

 

但事實上，人的一生相當短暫，老人們對此就深有感觸。

 

But in fact, a person’s life is rather short. The elderly know this well.

 

 

 

我們從一歲到十幾歲，都是貪玩的孩童時期，

 

From the age of one to the teens is a time of lighthearted childhood play.

 

 

 

這段時間如夢般恍恍惚惚就過了；

 

These years are like a dream, and they pass in a daze.

 

 

 

十幾歲到四十來歲，可以算是人生的鼎盛時期，但也轉眼即逝，

 

The period from the teens to the forties could be viewed as life’s golden age, but it too slips away in the blink of an eye.

 

 

 

並且在此期間，還經常遭遇家庭、工作的各種違緣，抽不出時間修持善法；

 

During this stage, people often face various family- and work-related obstacles and cannot afford the time to practice the virtuous Dharma.

 

 

到了五六十歲以上，身體大不如以前了，

 

Once people reach their fifties and sixties, the body is not as it was.

 

 

 

儘管也想行善斷惡，但心有餘而力不足，

 

Although you wish to cultivate virtue and give up wrongdoing, by this time the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

 

 

 

這時候後悔也來不及了。

 

It is also too late to lament.

 

 

所以，大家一定要把握住眼前的時光，不要肆意揮霍寶貴的人生。

 

Hence, you must hold on to the time in front of you and not recklessly squander your precious life.

 

 

 

尤其當妙欲勾住了我們的心時，應通過各種方法了知其本性，

 

In particular, when seductive desire has hooked your mind, you should employ various methods to recognize its true nature.

 

 

 

不要讓自己再成為它任意擺佈的奴隸了！

 

Do not let yourself be a slave at its mercy anymore!
